PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP
Patient Participation Groups were first formed in 1972 and N.A.P.P. was registered in 1978 as their umbrella organisation. Patient Participation Groups work with their practices to provide practical support, to help patients take more responsibility for their own health and to provide strategic input and advice. They are based on cooperation between the practice staff and patients. They help improve communication.
What do Patient Participation Groups do?
The activities of PPGs vary because they develop to meet local need. They include:
- Improving communication through newsletters, websites etc
- Organising health promotion events
- Running services to meet local need
- Providing strategic advice including insights into implications of the patient survey findings
- Supporting the practice in its dealings with other bodies
